Renderings are out for an 11-story timber office building proposed for the Riverfront Square development in Newark, New Jersey. The site is located next to New Jersey Transit’s Broad Street station, which is less than a twenty-minute commute to Midtown Manhattan. The project is part of a larger 11.8-acre mixed-use development, as well as Riverfront Park, designed by James Corner Field Operations. Lotus Equity Group will be responsible for the development.

The structure will rise at least 120 feet to its rooftop, and yield over 500,000 square feet of office space. The exposed wood design is expected to enhance the tenant experience, and will also be environmentally sustainable.

One of the most significant drives for timber construction is how it saves times in construction, without having to wait for the concrete to pour and dry. The tower will be treated to be fire resistant, with The Real Deal reporting the potential for a façade of brick or metal panels. The estimated completion date has not been announced.

  1. Total madness. What chemicals will the wood be treated with? Will the chemicals off-gas? Environmentally sensitive? Only fire resistant — not fireproof? You are building an 11 storey, 500k sf building here. Whoever is financing this has their head up their arse.

  2. Tony,
Please do a little more research prior to responding so quickly.

  3. Bob, This is the Internet. Your asking way too much for an intelligent resposne. I would also like to add, don’t vaccinate your kids!

NICE JOB, IT’S ABOUT TIME THEY START ADVANCING THE REAL ESTATE THERE. JERSEY CITY LOOKED HORRIBLE A FEW YEARS BACK, AND LOOK AT IT NOW.
