A new rendering has been released detailing a multi-use structure located in the South Bronx. The property which is currently owned by the city is one of the largest in its possession, and is situated on the Harlem River waterfront just north of the 145th Street bridge, adjacent to the Major Deegan Expressway. The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has partnered with the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), as well as Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) in their development of the property.

Bronx Point will include an estimated 1,045 units of housing which will be delivered in two phases; the first of which will include approximately 600 units of permanent affordable public housing. Phase one has an estimated completion date of 2022 and  S9 Architecture will be designing.

The retail and public spaces in the complex have been designed to integrate the surrounding community and will offer up to 60,000 square feet of amenity space. Outdoor components will include an open-air performance theatre with public seating, and a public plaza along the exterior street for ready access to retail spaces. A portion of interior space is set to be devoted for The Universal Hip-Hop Museum, the nation’s first brick and mortar museum dedicated to Hip-Hop.

Developed in conjunction with L+M Development Partners and Type A Projects, the project is set to create roughly 100 permanent new jobs, as well as 915 jobs relating to its construction during phase one of the build.

The prime location of the lot will give residents expedient access to public transportation, being only four blocks away from the 149th Street-Grand Concourse subway station. The station offers service on the 2, 4, and 5 trains. Stops on the Bx13 and Bx19 bus routes are also located one block away.

This location also provides residents walking access to Hostos Community College, Lincoln Medical Center, Mill Pond Park, and the Bronx Terminal Market.

  1. Please pardon me for using your space: Thank you for beautiful brightness, it’s broad to build me out on colorful lights.

Amazing!!! But to keep this property beautiful, they are going to have to hire a “real” security team. Not like the security team currently at the Bronx Terminal Mall, they just stand there idle as they watch people littering, taking shopping carts out of the mall and leaving them all along Gerard Avenue and Walton avenue. They allow for illegal taxi cabs to conduct business right in their presence and they take no action. The security guards even help load peoples groceries onto illegal taxi cabs for a tip. If they hire the same security firm currently at the Bronx Mall, This new place will be just another building in “The hood”.

  3. Transit at that station is the 2, 4, and 5 trains only!

I think there is a typo? “145th Street Bridge” or “149th Street Bridge”?

    • No. It’s the 145th. It gets its name from the Manhattan street connection, not the Bronx side which is 149th. If I understand this location correctly, this is being built on/next to the existing park area across from the Hostos building on the triangle there?

  5. ‘…600 units of permanent affordable public housing…’

    The SLUMS of the future.

‘A portion of interior space is set to be devoted for The Universal Hip-Hop Museum, the nation’s first brick and mortar museum dedicated to Hip-Hop.’

OMG. What’s next? The museum of Welfare?

  6. It’s the 145th street bridge. No it will not be a slum as we know affordable housing is not always affordable. I’m sure the AMI will be 80% to 130%. The location is a great choice. Bronx Stand up! in my Fat Joe voice “all the way up”

Hopefully whitey won’t try to take everything over*rolls eyes*

  8. So glad to see so many post of a Bronx Project. The Mexican circus was just on that land for a tour. It used to host the Universoul Circus as well. Hope it don’t to into a real circus of poverty. Would love to see some 80/20 ratio. 80% affordable for once and 20% higher income. And I’m Bronx proud all day but I’m a realist too.
