Permits have been filed for two addresses, at 540 and 550 Garage Gulf Avenue, in Bloomfield, Staten Island. The area is mainly used by construction companies for storing their larger equipment. Recently the neighborhood has seen a rise in commercial development, including the nearby Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, E-Z Pass department, and the Key Food corporate office, and the new garages are linked to Amazon’s new distribution center in the vicinity.
This time, Matrix Development Group is behind the filings. The two proposed 60-foot tall, six-story structures are to be parking garages, with a combined capacity for 1666 vehicles spanning 98,800 square feet.
Churches Consulting Engineers will be responsible for the project, and an estimated completion date has not been announced. The closest public transportation is the S40 bus line, 0.6 miles away.
The last time YIMBY reported on this area was for a 1.42 million-square-foot warehouse development, a logistics center, and a marine terminal. That project is being led by Staten Island Marine Development.

There is no “Garage Gulf Avenue” in Staten Island.
The addresses are ‘540-Garage’ and ‘550-Garage’. That’s just the DOB’s way of describing the properties as garages. The street name is still Gulf Avenue.
This parking garage is part of the Amazon warehouse development at Matrix. The NYCDOT has already agreed to convert Gulf Avenue to a 2-way street. The MTA will probably extend the Forest Avenue (S48/S98) bus through the Matrix/Amazon area. Or possibly a new cross-island bus route will terminate at Matrix.
NYCDOT will probably rename Gulf Avenue as ‘Amazon Avenue’ or ‘Matrix Avenue’. No one lives on Gulf Avenue anyway. The mapped but unbuilt numbered streets in the area will have to be renamed or renumbered as they conflict with other existing SI streetnames.
