Construction Update: 35 XV and 10 East 15th Street

Construction is moving along at 35 XV, the new mixed-use building going up at 35 West 15th Street. Though not apparent in the photos, the residential ‘tower’ component of the building is now rising at a significant setback from the base—lower floors will be dedicated to the new Xavier High School.  Once complete, 35 XV will rise 299 feet and 25 stories, making it prominent within the neighborhood.

One block to the east, another school is under construction at 10 East 15th Street. The project’s foundation is now complete, and it should begin rising shortly. Per DNA Info the site faced intense NIMBY opposition—ridiculous given the school will only rise eight stories and house fewer than 800 students, in a supposedly ‘family friendly’ neighborhood—but the city prevailed, and work is now progressing.

Renderings posted on the perimeter fence show the school will aspire to the ‘barely palatable and minimally contextual’ aesthetic that is so en vogue in New York at the moment. PKSB are the architects of record and their website also has additional images of the project.
