Related’s Hudson Yards: Besides Those Skyscrapers…

The most noticeable components of Related’s Hudson Yards development are obviously the skyscrapers, including the 1,300 foot North Tower, expected to begin rising soon. Besides the skyscrapers, there’s an enormous amount of retail that will anchor the future ‘Hudson Boulevard‘. Not to mention the Culture Shed, which could eventually play host to events such as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Retail is a major part of the Hudson Yards plan, with Related announcing intentions for the creation of a Time-Warner like podium for the project’s two main office towers. The only difference is that the podium at the Hudson Yards is going to be vastly larger than the one at Time Warner, even including space for a 10-screen movie theater.

Rumor has it–and an early rendering of the site may have confirmed–that Harvey Nichols could actually become an anchor for the retail space, as well. That would certainly generate buzz around the project, and would also make the retail podium a must-visit for New Yorkers and tourists alike.

The renderings show the retail space prior to the most recent redesign of the site’s towers, however it’s unknown whether the retail portion was affected by these changes as well.

In addition to the retail, the site will have a Culture Shed, which both Related and the Hudson Yards community hope will bring major cultural events and exhibitions to the Hudson Yards. The Culture Shed itself looks very impressive in size, only dwarfed by the enormous towers that will eventually surround it. The entire Hudson Yards project would make an impressive backdrop for events such as Fashion Week if the Culture Shed does prove as successful as its boosters hope.
